Spec-S5 Instrumentation Workshop
This workshop will focus on instrumentation development for a next-generation spectroscopic survey, commonly referred to as a Stage-5 Spectroscopic Experiment or "Spec-S5" for short. The Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel (P5) Report to the US High Energy Physics Advisory Panel recently recommended R&D to further develop Spec-S5, and potentially the start of this project under a favorable budget scenario. Topics of this workshop will include R&D in optical fibers, fiber positioners, optical/near-infrared spectrographs, photon detectors, readout electronics, cryostats, and other necessary technologies. The goal of this workshop is to bring together experts in these areas to exchange information and coordinate the R&D effort for Spec-S5.
The workshop will be hosted by the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Phyics (KICP) at the University of Chicago from Tuesday, Feb 27 - Thursday, Feb 29, 2024. We are also organizing a site visit to the brand new CCD packaging and testing facilities at Fermilab on the morning of Friday, Mar 1. If you would like to attend this visit, please book your travel to leave Friday afternoon.
